Prof. Mimi Ajzenstadt is a full professor at the Baerwald School of Social Work and Social Welfare and at the Institute of Criminology, Faculty of Law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She was the President of the Open University of Israel, the Dean of the School of Social Work and the Provost of the Rothberg International School at the Hebrew University. She was the Co-editor of Megamot and served as the Associate Editor of the Journal of Experimental Criminology and Israeli Criminology. She also a member of the editorial board of the European Journal of Criminology. Currently she is a member of the Board of Directors of Afik in Academia, Israeli Women Professors Association.
Her research interests lie in the areas of sociology of law, qualitative research methods and in the areas of gender, social policy and the welfare state. She has examined the establishment and operation of social policy towards women in the Israeli welfare state, and has analyzed the history of the social construction of attitudes towards juvenile delinquency in the Jewish community in pre-State Palestine and in the State of Israel. She has studied the experience of incarcerated mothers in the only female prison in Israel and the socio-legal construction of foreign workers in Israel.
